My own family’s version of this
When my parents sold their Arizona home and moved to independent living, I was already living in Iowa. I couldn’t be there, so I did what a lot of you are doing right now. I found an agent I trusted from halfway across the country and hoped it went well.
Years later, after my dad passed, I moved my mom here so she’d be close to me. I toured seven senior communities in the Quad Cities before we found the right one for her.
So I know this move from both sides. The house is one decision. Where you go, and when, is the bigger one.

An auction company, an estate sale or Facebook Marketplace each work for different people (an estate sale means buyers walking through your home, which some people love and some really don’t). I’ll walk you through the options, so the stuff isn’t what keeps you from moving.
Packing and moving
For local moves, I have movers I trust who can handle the packing too. For a move to another state, I only recommend the big national van lines (I’ve seen what can go wrong with the cheaper online outfits).
